Tour itinerary
Your adventure will start at the buggy base camp, only 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavík. After you got dressed in our waterproof gear, you’ll drive directly onto bumpy mountain roads, climb hills, cross rivers, and splash around. We’ll stop mid-way for the view, to take photos and to change drivers should you and your travel partner both want to experience the joy of driving a Buggy.
Upon arrival at Silfra, your guide will give you your snorkeling suit and equipment. We will explain how to use this equipment and how to ensure that you will be warm and comfortable during your 30 to 40-minute snorkeling tour of Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral and Silfra Lagoon.
During your snorkel, you will explore the stunning parts of Silfra. You will float through Big Crack, Silfra’s narrowest section where the continental plates are so close you can almost touch them simultaneously. The fissure then widens into Silfra Hall, where the full spectrum of Silfra’s colors and clarity become all the more apparent.

Frequently asked questions about this tour
I've never driven a buggy. Is that difficult?
No, our buggies are very easy to drive. They are automatic machines that you will master in only a few minutes.
Do I need off-road experience to drive your machines?
No prior experience is needed. You will be driving an automatic 4-wheel-drive UTV with a full roll cage and long-travel suspension. It has the same controls as any automatic car or truck. Put the shift lever into drive and go. Even shifting into 4-wheel drive is just the push of a button.
What clothes should I wear?
Wear something you don't mind getting wet and/or dirty. It is a very good idea to bring an extra set of clothing. Wear a warm base layer (the one touching your skin); wool and synthetic materials are best.
What safety riding gear do you provide?
We provide our customers with a helmet, gloves, a balaclava and waterproof overalls.
What is the minimum age of buggy drivers and passengers?
The minimum age for buggy drivers is 17 and the minimum age for passengers is 12. A driver's licence is required. These limits are also valid for the snorkeling tour.
Where are the meeting points for these tours?
The buggy base is at Lambhagavegur 19, 113 Reykjavík, on the outskirts of Reykjavík near Mt. Esja. The buggy tour starts at 10:00. The snorkeling tour starts at 14:00 at Silfra, Thingvellir. The drive between the two locations is about 40 minutes and very easy to follow.
Are these buggies safe?
Yes. These buggies are very safe. They are built with a low centre of gravity, so they are not tippy, and passengers sit in a 4-point harness inside a complete roll cage. They are much safer than ATV quad bikes.
What is the pace of the tour?
You set the pace of your tour. The pace always depends on the slowest driver. The tour is not a race. It should be fun, and you will also be able to enjoy the scenery.
What kind of machines do you use on your tours?
At Buggy Adventures we use top-of-the-line, factory-made 4-wheel-drive Can-Am 800cc buggies. They were designed with quality, performance and safety in mind, and their long-travel suspension provides the smoothest ride possible over rugged terrain. Wild enough for the off-road pro and tame enough for the first-time novice, our machines will not disappoint. You'll be coming back for more!
Will the tour be cancelled if it's raining?
No way, it's even more fun riding in the rain!
What are the requirements for the snorkeling tour?
Participants must have read, signed and followed directions on the online Snorkeling Medical Statement (link will be provided in the confirmation email). Please have our Snorkeling Medical form signed off by a doctor if you are age 60 or older. All participants must be at minimum 150cm / maximum 200cm and minimum 45kg / maximum 120kg. Please check our dry suit size chart and make sure that you fit within our snorkeling suits. Be at least 14 years of age on the year, be physically fit and be comfortable in the water and be able to swim. All participants must be able to communicate in English.
